Hello, Welcome to Pure Balance!
It was during a career break in China while completing my Yoga Teacher Training that the seeds of Pure Balance were sown. Having spent many years working in Forensic Psychology (both private and NHS), I had become frustrated that the normal treatment protocol was to treat physical health and mental health completely independently. This was not due to ignorance, merely due to the structure of the Western Medicine ethos and how it trains its clinicians. Think about it … How many times has a physical illness/injury affected you mentally, or vice versa? Mental and Physical health are so inextricably linked that in order to achieve optimal health, we should be considering BOTH factors concurrently, and this is what Pure Balance is all about.
Eastern medicine tends to be much more integrative in its approach, and Yoga is an especially perfect example of this integration. Since then I have worked hard in order to provide a service that you can be confident in to meet your bespoke needs. As such, I am uniquely able to create tailor-made individual treatment plans for most common ailments/injuries.
My qualifications are as follows:
This subject is my absolute passion. Starting with my undergraduate degree right up to the current time I have been fascinated by our unique qualities and how we can utilise our strengths in overcoming some of the most difficult times in our lives. I use a number of different techniques (person-centred, mindfulness, CBT, ACT, etc.) to maximise the facilitation of patients' personal growth.
One of the most common reasons patients currently come to me for acupuncture is when they are trying to conceive, or have a long-standing condition such as PCOS, endometriosis. This is because one of the things that acupuncture does best is to help regulate hormones and alleviate stress symptoms. As a result we have had a great number of wonderful treatment results from this approach.
Following the pandemic I have been treating an increasing number of people for CFS, Fibromyalgia, and Long-Covid. Although research is currently in its infancy (for all these conditions) the traditional Chinese medicine method of treating patients' unique set of symptoms rather than according to diagnosis has, in my experience, been gaining very positive results.
Following my initial acupuncture degree I have completed further training in treating muscluloskeletal ailments such as knee and back problems, but also more obscure injuries such as strained psoas muscles. I have also studied Dr. Tan's Balance technique in pain reduction which I find has excellent results. Having participated in many different sports throughout my life, a large part of my knowledge comes from "in the field" experience, which only adds to my passion in treating them.
